Dr. Vargas-Moreno has 15 years of expertise in the analysis and planning of rapidly changing cities, with experience in the development of growth strategies. His work focuses on the integration of analysis and technological processes to improve decision-making at technical, political and institutional levels. Dr. Vargas-Moreno is an architect from the University of Costa Rica and holds both a Master of Regional Planning and Ecology; and a PhD in Regional Planning and Urban Information Systems from Harvard University. He is also an alumnus of the Sustainability Science and Policy Program Center at Harvard University.

With a background in landscape architecture and regional planning, Sophia specializes in the intersection of urban and natural environments and the insertion of green infrastructure networks at multiple scales. Her focus is on place-based sustainable strategies that incorporate adaptation practices to mitigate the effects of climate change within growing regions through the use of public space and the surrounding landscape. Her experience includes regional work that focuses on the identification of regional connections between environmental, planning and development goals, in addition to smaller scale interventions. Sophia received her Masters in Landscape Architecture from Harvard University and her B.A. from Oberlin College.

Barry Fradkin is a Geographic and Information Systems analyst, and his specialties include geospatial analysis, hydrologic modeling, scenario planning, regional and urban planning, and hazard risk assessment. He is experienced in developing urban growth models to assess patterns and land use considering the influence of climate change, and the impacts these have on public policy. Skilled in data analysis, data management, and assessing riverine flood risk using GIS and hazard modeling software; implementing the HEC-RAS river model, CAPRA ERN-Flood and HAZUS Multi Hazard. Mr. Fradkin received his Masters in Environmental Science and a B.S. in Earth Systems, cum laude, from the University of Massachusetts.

Ms. Xin is specializes in urban and environmental analytics and planning. She has worked on a variety of projects ranging from statewide regional growth scenarios to strategic design of open spaces for climate change adaptation. Her research focuses on regional economic development strategies, urban resilient development, and urban land use and transportation. Ms. Xin is skilled and experienced in GIS analytics, including the processing and analysis of large datasets. She is experienced in urban socioeconomic development and in systematic methods for analyzing urban environmental problems. Zhizhi Xin holds a M.S. in Urban and Environmental Planning with a concentration in GIS from the University of Virginia.

Trained as an architect, Marcela Orozco specializes in risk and vulnerability analyses of urban natural hazards, city politics and sustainable planning. She is experienced in environmental and infrastructural risk reduction, community emergency response and preparedness. She has worked in emergency management, disaster relief, on field coordination and needs assessments, information management, and development of DRR strategies in Latin America. To complete her Master in Design Studies in Risk and Resilience at Harvard University, Marcela researched the intersection of politics and urban environmental and risk prevention actions, focused on institutional and social participation, as well as environmental and basic service equity.

With a background in urban and regional planning, Dr. Ponte has years of international experience in Vulnerability Assessment, Disaster Risk Management, Adaptation Planning to Climate Change, Vocational Training GIS and Research. His Ph.D. thesis concentrated on measures, plans and strategies to reduce the urban impact of climate change in coastal cities of Global South. He has strong experience on the integration of the risk and resilience recommendations in Local Urban Plans. In his previous experiences he helped decision makers to create instruments that helped them to protect and prepare to the future aspects considering the climate change. Dr. Ponte has also developed training activities for local administrators.

Dr. Karish has eighteen years of academic and professional work as a project manager and resource specialist on projects involving open space planning, natural resources planning, sustainable land use practices, impact analyses and mitigation techniques, and alternative futures development, among others. She also has experience in advanced research, GIS modeling, conservation management for wildlife, plant species, and landscape-level ecological systems. Dr. Karish holds a Doctorate of Design in Landscape Ecology and Environmental Planning from Harvard University. She also holds a M.S. in Fisheries and Wildlife Ecology from Utah State University, and a B.S. in Ecology, Behavior and Evolution, from the University of California, San Diego.

Mr. Rodríguez received his Bachelor’s degree in Economics with a minor in Environmental Science from the University of Massachusetts-Boston. His primary responsibilities include research, data visualization and the application of geo-statistical analysis to economic and environmental development solutions for GeoAdaptive’s clients. Mr. Rodriguez is experienced in data collection for projects regarding community development. Francisco Rodriguez worked as a data services intern at the Metropolitan Area Planning Council, a regional planning agency in Boston, where, he worked on range of products for municipalities in the Boston metro area including a density crash map, zoning maps and other internal and external cartographic requests.

Karelys Fung is the Business Manager and Strategic Business Development of GeoAdaptive. She is responsible for developing the firm’s expansion strategy by understanding the particularities of the different global markets, identifying potential niches for the firm’s practices areas, and seeking business opportunities by working with partners and clients.  She is also in charge of overseeing the overall administrative needs of GeoAdaptive, including recruiting talented professionals.  Her background is in business and finance, and has 6 years of experience in the international health insurance industry. Ms. Fung received her B.S. in Business from Babson College.

Mr. Pérez is an engineering and urban land use systems expert. His focus is on the interaction between human settlements and natural systems, most recently focusing on policy assessment of urban growth patterns. With over 10 years of experience in Latin American cities, he has worked on environmental externalities of human settlements, concentrating on transportation systems, socioeconomic patterns and urban economics. He is experienced in spatial analysis of urban and regional systems, combining GIS with statistical tools. Mr. Pérez developed advanced research and postgraduate studies at MIT in urban sustainability and the development of spatial carbon scenarios at the Environmental Policy and Planning Group.
