Title: Participatory Scenario Planning for Climate Change in Southern Florida’s Greater Everglades Landscape
Location: Southern Florida, USA
Client: USGS, USFWS
The goal of this project was the simulation of a range of possible futures for the state of Florida, including variations in climate change, population growth, conservation funding, conservation priorities, and urbanization assumptions. These simulations, or alternative future scenarios as they are called, elucidate potential impacts to “trust resources” and help visualize strategic conservation options. Scenarios were used to test different conservation strategies and mechanisms in light of recognizable threats (climate change, urbanization, etc.), potential implementation options under a variety of future conditions, and the integration of alternative land development policies. The aim was to identify critical areas of concern to multiple stakeholders, encouraging partnerships to be forged to enhance the management of Florida’s natural landscape.
